Sodalean Review: Is There Caffeine in It? Nobody Says

This is a small question with disproportionate consequences, and it is answered on none of the pages selling this product.

The short version

Green tea extract contains caffeine unless the label says decaffeinated. No page here says either way.

Why the caffeine question matters

Green tea extract is made from tea leaves, and tea leaves contain caffeine. Unless an extract has been specifically decaffeinated, the caffeine comes with the catechins.

That matters for three separate reasons.

Efficacy. Much of the thermogenic effect attributed to green tea in trials comes from the caffeine rather than the catechins. A decaffeinated extract is a genuinely different product in terms of what it does.

Tolerability. Caffeine sensitivity varies enormously. Jitteriness, raised heart rate, anxiety and disturbed sleep are common at doses others do not notice.

Stacking. Someone taking this alongside coffee, tea, energy drinks or a pre-workout is adding an unknown amount to an already substantial intake.

What the pages say

Nothing. One lists “Green Tea Extract — a classic botanical prized for its natural antioxidant content” and stops there. Neither the caffeine content nor the decaffeination status appears anywhere, and neither does a milligram figure for the extract itself.

One page does describe its product as containing no artificial stimulants, which is a different statement — caffeine from green tea is a natural stimulant, not an artificial one.

So a buyer with a caffeine sensitivity, an arrhythmia, an anxiety disorder or a sleep problem cannot determine whether this product is appropriate for them.

What to do

Ask directly before ordering. “Is the green tea extract decaffeinated, and if not, how much caffeine does a serving contain?” A single sentence, and the answer — including a non-answer — is informative.

Take it in the morning if you do buy it, until you know. Anything containing an unknown quantity of caffeine belongs at the start of the day rather than the end.

Count your total intake. If you already drink several coffees, an unknown additional amount is not a trivial addition.

And note the related caution: green tea catechins reduce non-haem iron absorption, so separate any green tea product from iron-rich meals and iron supplements.

The refund clock nobody can answer

One page states a 180-day money-back guarantee, repeated four separate times. Another states an “unconditional 60-day guarantee from the date of purchase” — and then, in the same paragraph, that a claim requires “at least 30 days of use”.

A minimum-use requirement is a condition. Whatever the page calls it, if you must take the product for 30 days before claiming and the window shuts at day 60, your actual decision period is roughly days 30 to 60 — half of what the headline implies.

A paid advertorial about the same product refers to 30-day return requirements, which matches neither figure cleanly.

The refund window is the only real protection a buyer has in a category where the formula cannot be checked in advance. Screenshot the guarantee text on the page you order from, with the date visible, and diarise day 50 regardless of what it says.

Independent background reading, none of it selling anything: FTC health products compliance guidance, the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements on weight-loss supplements and MedlinePlus on dietary supplements. For the applied version of this on our own pages, see what the product actually is or the Sodalean official website reference.

What we would do

Read the ingredient list and the guarantee text on the exact page taking your money, and screenshot both with the date visible — the official pages describe different products on different terms. Take the smallest package. Photograph the Supplement Facts panel when it arrives and compare it against what you were sold. Weigh at the same time each morning and compare weekly averages rather than individual days. And diarise day 50, assuming the shorter version of the guarantee applies.

Frequently asked

No, and no dietary supplement is. There is no pre-market approval for supplements. Facilities are registered and inspected, which is a different thing from being approved.

Ask a prescriber first. Green tea catechins, acetic acid and fermentable fibre can each lower blood glucose, which is additive with metformin, a sulfonylurea or insulin.

Concentrated green tea extracts carry a rare but documented liver-injury signal that EFSA has reviewed. Anyone with liver disease or raised liver enzymes should ask a doctor first.

Because probiotic evidence is strain-specific and no strains are named, and there is no CFU count. “Three strains” is not information a buyer can act on.

About this article

Written and fact-checked against primary sources: the printed Supplement Facts panel, the official order page, the published return policy and peer-reviewed literature. Disclaimer. Concentrated green tea extract carries a rare but documented liver-injury signal; green tea, acetic acid and fermentable fibre can each lower blood glucose; green tea contains vitamin K, which affects warfarin; and fibre reduces absorption of levothyroxine and iron taken at the same time.
