Sodalean Review: Why an ACV Capsule Isn’t a Tablespoon of Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is the most searched weight ingredient of the past decade, and the gap between what the research used and what a capsule contains is the widest in this formula after the fibre.

The short version

Trials used 15-30 ml of liquid vinegar. No capsule label states its acetic acid content.

What the research actually did

The active component is acetic acid, not the vinegar itself. It slows gastric emptying, which blunts the post-meal glucose and insulin rise — a shallower peak means a shallower fall, which plausibly means less rebound hunger.

The trials that produced modest weight differences used 15 to 30 ml of liquid vinegar daily, typically diluted in water and taken with meals over about 12 weeks. At a standard 5% acidity, 15 ml delivers roughly 750 mg of acetic acid; 30 ml delivers about 1,500 mg.

Those are the numbers any ACV product should be compared against.

What a capsule contains

Dried apple cider vinegar powder is made by spray-drying vinegar onto a carrier, usually maltodextrin. The resulting powder is mostly carrier.

A typical ACV capsule contains a few hundred milligrams of that powder, of which the acetic acid fraction is a modest percentage. The arithmetic rarely gets anywhere near 750 mg of acetic acid, and frequently lands an order of magnitude below.

Almost no label states its acetic acid content, including the pages selling this product — which state no amount for anything at all. So the one number that would let you compare a capsule to the trials is the number nobody prints.

What this means practically

If the ACV mechanism appeals, use liquid vinegar. A tablespoon in water before a meal costs almost nothing and delivers the amount the research used. Dilute it, drink it through a straw and rinse afterwards — undiluted vinegar erodes tooth enamel, which is a genuine and documented harm.

If you cannot tolerate liquid vinegar — reflux is the common reason — a capsule will not solve that either, since the acid is the active.

And note the interaction. Acetic acid blunts post-meal glucose, which is additive with diabetes medication. It also slows gastric emptying, which is unhelpful in gastroparesis.

ACV in a capsule is the clearest example in this formula of an ingredient included because buyers search for it rather than because the format can deliver it.

Three official sites, three different products

This is the finding that shapes everything else, and you can verify it in about two minutes by opening the pages side by side.

One site sells a powder. Its own copy says “one scoop a day — no pills, no fuss,” and tells you to stir it into a glass of cold water. Its ingredients are listed as Green Tea Extract, Apple Cider Vinegar, a “Fiber Blend” and a “Vitamin B Complex”.

Another sells capsules built around Chicory Root Inulin, Potato Resistant Starch and a three-strain probiotic blend, and instructs you to refrigerate the bottle after opening.

The bottle artwork shows an “Advanced Metabolic Formula” capsule, 30 per bottle, with icons for appetite control and fat metabolism.

A prebiotic gut formula, a thermogenic drink powder and a metabolic capsule are three different products. Research on one page and order from another and you have no reliable idea what arrives.

Independent background reading, none of it selling anything: NIDDK on weight management, FTC health products compliance guidance and the FDA dietary supplement overview. For the applied version of this on our own pages, see the refund clock or the Sodalean official website reference.

What we would do

Read the ingredient list and the guarantee text on the exact page taking your money, and screenshot both with the date visible — the official pages describe different products on different terms. Take the smallest package. Photograph the Supplement Facts panel when it arrives and compare it against what you were sold. Weigh at the same time each morning and compare weekly averages rather than individual days. And diarise day 50, assuming the shorter version of the guarantee applies.

Frequently asked

Either 180 days or 60 days depending on the page — and the 60-day version requires at least 30 days of use before a claim while calling itself unconditional.

The pages disagree. One lists one bottle at $69, three at $49 each and six at $39 each. The other lists two at $158, three at $207 and six at $294 — $10 to $20 more per bottle.

Not at a researched amount. Chicory inulin is studied at 5–15 grams daily and resistant starch at 15–30 grams. A large capsule holds under one gram in total.

No, and no dietary supplement is. There is no pre-market approval for supplements. Facilities are registered and inspected, which is a different thing from being approved.
